Largo Bay - Scottish Circuit 2009
Written by John Wilson
Sunday, 05 July 2009

Largo Bay Sailing Club hosted round 2 of the RS300 Scottish Circuit on the weekend of 27th and 28th June. Conditions were overcast but bright and there was a pleasant force 3 blowing from the East and so conditions were looking great for a good weekend of sailing.

The 300s were grouped with the handicap fleet and so found themselves sailing the triangular course against Europes, Finns, Tasars, Laser 2s, Laser 2000s and an RS500.  The start-line was busy, with between 15 and 20 boats battling for the favoured end and a bit of space.

New sail approved!

... and will shortly be available from LDC. Orders are being taken by LDC for the new sail and the first batch should be ready before the end of July, plenty of time to get a shiny new sail for the Nationals! The cost for the new sail should be in the region of 20-25% less than that of the old sail, but please check with LDC for the exact price.

After testing the new sail against the old at Draycote, Aldenham and at the Bough Beech and Milton Keynes opens were are convinced that it offers neither any speed advantage nor disadvantage (but looks a whole lot better). During testing the sail received some pretty brutal treatment in some strong winds so we anticipate the longevity to be pretty much the same as the old sail.
